Vesta as ruler of virgo

Hello tribe! long time no post!
mercury just doesn't do it for me anymore. having dug a deeper well in astrology, i am personally finding that vesta is a far more accurate ruler of virgo. astroids just aren't looked upon as "significant heavenly bodies" but they are. actually, pluto, if it were discovered today would not be considered a planet, it would be called as astroid as the qualifications for what we call a "planet" has changed over the years.

that being said- this heavenly body called vesta symbolizes where in life a person can experience a profound sense of selfless dedication, commitment and purpose. vesta relates to a sacred flame that we protect. (vesta was the goddess of the hearth- the protector of the heart- relates to the temple dancers that sought to reach perfection of body and relationship and dedicated themselves purely to the gods)

virgo is where consciousness seeks self accuracy. it is the intent to embody perfection and purity of self/action/intention. integrity, honesty, reliability, hard working, committed are all key words for virgo- and that correlates directly to vesta.

I find mercury, as it relates to the functioning of the left brain, how one learns and how one proceesess/ communicates information relates to virgo only in the sense that it is detail oriented and exacting. but it fails to speak to the integrity, dedication, selfless facets of virgo.
mercury works really really well for gemini! let me tell you! id love to hear what ya'll have to say about this. look at your chart and find vesta and mercury (you'd have to go to astro.com and click on "extended chart selection" to locate vesta on your chart) and see which planet holds more true as a ruler to your rising sign.

a way to discover that is by envisioning your rising sign energy as a car. the placement of it's ruling planet will be the instruction manual and the tools that help the car run. that placement will give you a more specific sense of "how your rising sign operates, how it is more authentically accessed"

for me:
virgo rising. mercury in sag in the 4th house. if mercury is the ruler of virgo, then i would look at my chart and say, "my ability to individuate myself as dedicated, selfless and committed to a purpose i see as higher than myself (virgo) is experienced and accessed by/through the search and teaching of truth within my tribe/ my home/ safe nurturing spaces (mercury in sag in 4th house).
now of course that will feel true to a certain extent because my mercury is in sag in the 4th house- but the question i ahve to ask myself is: Is that experience where i truly embody a high level of commitment and dedication and purpose?

If i look at vesta. its in opposition to my mercury in gemini in the 10th house. this would be interpreted as: "my ability to indiviuate myself as dedicated, selfless and committed to a purpose i see as higher than myself is experienced by/though/as collecting data, experiencing myself in my enviroment and then utilizing many talents, skills and abilities to communicate it (gemini) in my career/the role i take on in the world (10th house).
i personally find that to be very true- and indeed, i have been moving more into the role of an astrologer/guide for others and i have been experiencing a profound sense of dedication and purpose in this work. most importantly, through this work i find i am more and more experiencing myself as a virgo!

Actually Pluto makes it into the list now. This article is interesting:

    www.boston.com/news/natio...12_planets/

I don't think there's ever gonna be complete symmetry between astrology and astronomy. We should just go with what is observed to work over time. By the new proposed definition of a planet, it's anything that's round and orbits the Sun but not another planet, so the Moon won't count--but we know how well it works in experience, right?

I never liked Mercury as Virgo's ruler, either. No offense to Mercury--I have four planets in Gemini and am more than a little in tune with that zippy little planet! Mercury energy just never said "Virgo" to me. I've been going with Chiron, but I remain open to other suggestions. I'll have to think about Vesta. If I were choosing a Virgo ruler just on the basis of a planet's name, Ceres would tempt me, but her name is about all I know about her. Yay! Ceres is a planet now! At least until the astronomers start throwing their own definitions out the window again.

Must confess I don't know much about any of the asteroids/planetoids/whatevers. Always was all I could do to keep up with what the major players were doing. Guess I've got some reading to do.

      yes, mercury is sooo gemini.
interesting you would say chiron- i wonder why. i see chiron as a potential co-ruler of cancer, as chiron relates to our deep wound, broke-open-heart healing process of that wound. my teacher even teaches at chiron as a higher octave of the moon.
yeah, planet/astroid/planetoid- its all becoming more and more arbitrary what we call it, isnt it. ceres is a planet now? cool.

Actually I was premature with that good news about Pluto and Ceres, et al. The astronomers voted *after* I posted that, and they went with the stripped-down model of the solar system after all, and now even Pluto isn't a planet any more. It's a "dwarf planet." And Ceres isn't in, none of the new ones are in. It doesn't matter though. After all, we've been using the Moon and the Sun for centuries, and they're not "planets" either. I say we should continue to use the asteroids and planetoids and any the other 'oids that seem to work. It's not like astronomers are gonna affirm us any *more* if we follow them slavishly, right?

Actually, asteroids (including Vesta) are between Mars & Jupiter, Centaurs (including Chiron) are between Saturn & Neptune. Beyond Neptune are the Trans-Neptunian Objects (TNOs), Pluto & Eris are Kuiper Belt Objects (KBOs. They & Ceres are considered 'dwarf planets' now), and beyond them are the Scattered Belt Objects, including recently discovered planetoids like Varuna & Sedna ( Sedna is one of the slowest moving things in the solar system, it takes 12,000 years to orbit the Sun) & finally as far as we know, the Oort cloud is where comets come from. Some astronomers think the Sun has a companion star Called 'Nemesis' about 3 light years away.

My Mercury is combusted by 2 degrees in Cancer & I have Vesta in either Capricorn or Sagittarius (I think Vesta in Sagittarius relates more to me obviously! lol) I seriously don't think all this categorization (that we're infamous for) of celestial bodies really means much of anything, I mean, ultimately everything is tiny, right? But yeah, we have to find the definite ruler of Virgo & Taurus (Venus seems more Libra to me), but I do seem to get affected my Mercury when it becomes retrograde, all kinds of crazy thing fall at my feet!

I don't really like Vesta, it's lumpy & it's smaller than Pluto; but alas, I must admit from observations of myself & Virgo Sun people, IT IS the ruler of Virgo. Mine is at 5 degrees Capricorn (28 degrees Sagittarius by ArtofWebDesign.net's ephemeris) retrograde opposite Jupiter conjunct Saturn, Fourth house on AstroTheme.fr/en's chart.

Im not really sure what to think, Mercury in my chart is in the 6th in pisces, trine saturn in scorpio, square uranus and jupiter in sagi from the 3rd. Vesta is in aries conjunct my Mars, trine uranus and jupiter semi square chiron, semi sextile mercury. hmm Im just not sure what it means yet.
